On Sunday, K-c headed to Walsall for the English Open. Unfortunately numbers were low in her group due to Seniors pulling out. With a couple of very tough fights and losses, K-c was given a BRONZE.
Thank you to our Coaches Paul P, Ian L and Paul F for coaching at the English open as well as laurie Rush and all the supporters in person and online.
In other areas closer to home, some of our adults headed to High Wycombe for the Chalfont Championships. It is great to see this group out at competitions and flying the flag high. For some of these guys, they’ve either made a return to judo following many years of not doing it, started only within a couple of years, or even come back after having a few weeks/months off due to other life committments, so the results below speak volumes about their enthusiasm and committment:
Rohel – GOLD, Ross – SILVER, Russel – SILVER, – Stuart – BRONZE
Thank you to Coach Ian R for being there with these guys and to all the supporters.
But why stop there? This time we head to Germany as Rico took GOLD at the VI German Open in Heidelberg in the Juniors categroy and even gave Seniors a go!
An absolutely freezing venue did not ruin the MJC team spirit. Results were:
Isabella – BRONZE, Itsy – GOLD, Phoebe – GOLD, Timur – GOLD, Arthur – GOLD
Stepping onto the mat at a judo competition is never easy – it takes guts to face the challenge head on. Unlucky today for Ollie, but it’s all part of the journey. Every tournament is an opportunity to learn, grow and push harder for the next opportunity!
Results available on MJC Facebook
On Saturday, Justine and Stuart headed to the Kent Senior Split Grade Open alongside Coach Ian Rose. A massive well done to Justine who was fighting 2 weight categories up, comping away with one win and two loses. Justine took away Gold in her category.
Stuart had 7 in his group and achieved 4 wins giving him Gold. Fantastic result.
The last two weeks have been busy. Our Cadet, Junior and Senior competition players have been training flat out for their two big weekends. The British Championships is not just the last competitions to sign off the year, but for some the pinnacle of their year!
Last weekend we had Zeb, Chayse, Emily and Stan competing in the Cadet category. A tough day to say the least and although no medals for Chayse, Zeb and Emily, there was superb fighting from all. Stan came away with a silver medal following a tough and very close final. This weekend we had Jay, Emily, Zeb, Stan and Chayse on Saturday and then K-c on Sunday. After difficult fights, it was unfortunate to see Emily, Zeb and Chayse come away without medals. Their fighting was on form, as was their committment and mental attitude towards the competition, but it just wasn’t meant to be for them on the day.
Both Stan and Jay came away with a Bronze medal, so well done to both of them.
At the weekend, we had Rico competing in Venray with a para potential squad scoring himself a Gold. Well done Reeks!

We had two club members fighting closer to home on Saturday with Ollie and Rob competing in the Rod Lane Senior Kyu Grade. Unfortunately no medals this time, but good mat time and a chance to put into action what they have been learning.
At the weekend, MJC were in Brentwood for the Minor British Championships with Itsy and Arthur. This was undoubtedly a very tough competition and the level of fighting was very good. Both Itsy and Arthur took what they have been learning and their session times on the mat, and delivered some excellent judo. Itsy came away with a silver medal and Arthur with a very respectable 5th place. First time at British Championships (Nationals) and what a great result!
Chayse, Stan and Zeb competed on day one in an extremely hot venue. Results included gold for Stan, Silver for Chayse and 7th place for Zebedee. Today we had a Gold and Silver for Stan, a Gold for Zeb, Gold and Silver for Jay, Bronze and Silver for K-c and experience and mat time earned for Rico, Bobby and Ash. A fantastic 40 points for Zeb towards his Dan grade, leaving him with just 30 to go!
This weekend we have had Justine, Ash, Ollie, Jonah and Samuel competing at the Chalfont comp. It was a very impressive day resulting in a Gold for Jonah and Samuel, Silver for Justine and a Bronze for both Ollie and Ash! Thank you to Ian Rose for coaching.
Today Jay went to Birmingham to compete in the Junior European Cup. Although there was no placing this time for Jay, it was a great experience!
This weekend, we have had Stanley fighting in the International Judo Tournament Venray. With a bye in his first round, Stanley then went on to win two and unfortunately lose two. Fighting in the u55kgs, Stan came away with a very respectable 9th place. Thank you to Laurie Rush for being by his side.
On the 26th May 2024, Kev Thomas-Wilkinson completed The Ride London100 Mile Bike Ride. Kev’s daughter, Isabella has been part of Micklefield Judo Club for nearly two years and his Son Shaun in his younger years also. Kev and the family wanted to give something back to MJC, a club that as a family they are passionate about, and that they did!
Kev raised over £600. Well done Kev!
Jay was competing today at the Junior European Cup in Lithuania. Unfortunately it was not the result Jay was hoping for but he now has lots more experience to gain while he trains at the camp there for the next couple of days.
Well done also to our very own Ash Parkin, who stepped into the Pinewood Judo Club team competing today at the Bill Nobbs team competition. No medal unfortunately, but great experience for Ash and good sportsmanship too.
Great results in the Rush Rumble invitation only event today with 5 golds (Jack, Logan, Hugo, Aron and Mia), 5 silvers (Alana, Itsy, Rory, Arthur and Brooke) and 9 Bronzes (Aniah, Aaliyah, Amayah, Max, Daniel, Uthmaan, Maysoor, Austin and Hamza).
Well done to all!
The International Masters in Breman, Germany took place over the weekend and saw Jay Parkin fighting on Sunday 24th March. Held in the Congress Centre in Breman, Jay weighed in on Saturday 23rd March, and on Sunday found out he would have 19 in his group. Jay had 3 fights and although did not medal this time, proved he is worthy to be there and MJC are proud of his journey so far.
Stan, seeded joint 8th was selected for the European Cup in Croatia. Fighting in the U50kgs and a tough group, Stan faced an Italian and a Brazilian, but it wasn’t his weekend, this time!
A brilliant weekend at the British Schools Championships in Sheffield with a clean sweep of medals. Rico took a well deserved Gold medal and 10 points towards his Dan Grade whilst Zeb and Chayse had awesome wins and narrow defeats coming away with a Silver and Bonze medals respectively.
