The Coaching Team

Paul Horseman

Paul is a 7th Dan Black belt and club coach. He started judo at the age of 6 and joined the club within the first few weeks of it opening. He is now our Chairman and heavily involved in the running of the club. He still competes occasionally and is three time British Masters champion as well as silver medallist at the 2012 Commonwealth Masters championships.

Paul is your Chairman and your main contact for the Beginners courses.

Ian Lane

Ian is 3rd Dan Black belt and club coach. He started judo the very first week the club opened back in 1973 and has been active with the club ever since. He currently holds office as Club Treasurer. Ian has won medals at national level and is a former member of the British Masters squad.

Ian is your main contact for the Gradings and competitions.

Ian Rose

Ian is 7th Dan Black belt and senior club coach. Ian is one of the country’s most decorated VI players winning World and European titles in a glittering career. Ian has competed in five Paralympic Games winning bronze in Atlanta in 1996 and silver in Athens in 2004. Ian’s judo coaching is complemented by the fact he is a professional motivational speaker.

Paul Pusey

Paul is a 3rd Dan Black belt and club coach. He started judo at the age of 7 and joined the club when he was a young teenager. Paul has Junior National medals as well as British Masters medals. Paul has also held a world record for the highest amount of judo throws in a set time.

Paul is your main contact for Junior Coaching.

Paul Franklin

Paul is a 2nd Dan Black Belt. Having started judo at the age of 10 in Ealing Youth Judo, Paul has won medals at National and International Level. Paul supports the Junior classes and competitions.

K-c Franklin

K-c started judo when she was 5 years old under the supervision of Don Werner of Pinewood Judo Club. She joined Micklefield Judo Club in 2017. K-c has worked hard to achieve her Dan Grade, her time keeping badge, her contest controller badge as well as her Level 1 Coaching License When not at University studying Criminology and Forensic Investigation, K-c assists on the Junior Beginners Courses with Mr and Mrs Horseman.

Jay Parkin

Jay is the newest edition to the coaching team with a BJA Coaching Level 2 award. Jay is also a 2nd Dan. Jay regularly competes representing not only the club but also the England Squad.

Joel Paines

Joel is a BJA Level 1 Coach. Joel is an excellent support to the team and supports Stokenchurch Judo Club also. Joel is a 1st Dan. He is a keen promoter of Kata within Judo.

Martin Ball

Martin a 3rd Dan, and has been a member of Micklefield Judo Club since the beginning. Starting Judo when he was 7 years old, Martin ran Hazlemere Youth Centre Judo Club before returning to Micklefiel Judo Club in 2024 bringing about a natural evolution.

Tim Burt

Tim is a 2nd Dan and a BJA Coach Level 2. Tim is a professional photographer by day and is responsible for many of our fantastic photographs across our website and socials.

Karen Horseman

Karen is a BJA level 1 Coach and an excellent edition to our band of female coaches.

Hamish Pearson

Hamish is a 1st Dan and a Level 1 Coach. Hamish, a member of the Royal Air Force brings expertise in fitness and discipline to the team.
